Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
It was a full week, with opportunities to spend time with people in many different settings.
I celebrated with students and families at Holy Family Institute, listened to parishioners talk about the works of mercy, celebrated a wedding, visited with people who support our seminarians and prayed with men and women celebrating jubilees in consecrated life.
I enjoy having the chance to be with people throughout our diocese. I get to listen, learn more about what is happening in their lives and in our parishes, and pray with them.
I celebrated Mass at Holy Family Institute, where we dedicated the school to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and blessed the new Yankoski Activities Center.
The new center will be a great space for the young people and families served by Holy Family. I enjoyed seeing it and having the chance to spend some time with everyone there.
I pray that the Sacred Heart of Jesus will continue to guide the students, families, faculty, staff and everyone who is part of the Holy Family community.

On Thursday evening, I visited with the faithful of Most Precious Blood of Jesus Parish.
We talked about the many ways people there are carrying out the works of mercy through prayer, care for mothers and families, service to the poor, and care for the sick and elderly.
They also shared a story about a group who went to sing at the bedside of a dying priest. A non-practicing Catholic joined them because of his friendship with the music director. Afterward, he knew that what he had experienced went beyond the music. He said, “Something else was happening there.”
We may begin by doing something for another person, and sometimes God does something in us at the same time.

On Friday, I celebrated the Sacrament of Matrimony for Gabriella and Harry Morris at Heinz Chapel.
I have a special connection to Gabriella’s family. Her father, Bob Ridge, was one of my grade school classmates at St. Valentine’s. It was great to see him and to have the privilege of celebrating his daughter’s wedding.
God bless Gabriella and Harry as they begin their married life together. I pray that He will be with them and their family for many happy years to come.

I also joined the Catholic Daughters of America for their annual luncheon benefiting our seminarians.
Our seminarians have many people throughout the diocese praying for them and encouraging them as they discern and prepare for the priesthood. I know how much that prayer and support mean to them.
Please continue to pray for our seminarians and for the young men throughout our diocese who may be considering a vocation to the priesthood. May they listen carefully for God’s call and have the courage to answer Him.
