Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Last week took me to some very different places: a summer festival, two cemetery blessings, and several parish gatherings. Yet all of them pointed to the same truth. Our faith is ultimately about helping one another grow closer to Christ and preparing for the day when we will be with Him forever.
As Christians, we believe that death is not the end of the story. We continue to pray for our loved ones who have gone before us, trusting in God's mercy and love. We remain connected through the communion of saints. That hope gives meaning to the way we live today and confidence in the promises of Christ.
My visit to the sister parishes of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Clare of Assisi in Butler County came at an important moment as they prepared to unite as Saints Francis and Clare Parish on July 1.
Throughout the evening, parishioners spoke about coming together across former parish boundaries through community meals, music ministry, outreach to the bereaved, volunteer service, and personal encounters with those in need.
These parishes serve a large rural area of eastern Butler County, yet they have seen remarkable growth through their commitment to the works of mercy. One community meal ministry has grown from serving about 100 people to more than 300.
Parishioners described ministries that support grieving families, outreach to pregnant women and young families, and growing involvement in prison ministry.
One volunteer shared, "At first I was scared, but now I am honored just to be able to be in their presence."
As they get ready to become one parish family, there is great enthusiasm for expanding ministries, inviting more people to become involved, and sharing the good work that is already taking place.

I was honored to bless the new Saint Thomas the Apostle Garden Mausoleum, which will serve families for generations to come as a sacred place to remember loved ones and entrust them to God's care.

One of the great blessings of our diocese is the faithful service of our priests.
Even after retirement, many continue assisting in parishes, celebrating Mass, hearing confessions, and serving God's people well into their later years. They do it because they love the Lord and they love the people they have been called to serve.
Recently I had dinner with the priests who reside at Saint John Vianney Manor, our diocesan retirement home for priests. Many of these men have spent decades serving in parishes throughout western Pennsylvania.
Please join me in thanking God for their faithful ministry. And please continue to pray for vocations, that more young men will hear and answer God's call to the priesthood.

Last week I stopped by SummerFest at Resurrection Parish, where I served as pastor for many years. It was wonderful to spend time with parishioners, enjoy the festivities, and catch up with so many familiar faces.
The event brought together hundreds of volunteers, including seminarians Tung Nguyen and Kevin Richardson, whose hard work helped make the day a success. I am also grateful for the dedicated lay leaders who organize and support the festival year after year.
It was a joyful day, a great celebration of parish life, and a reminder of how much can be accomplished when people come together in faith and friendship.
